Though having purchased a book entitled: “Don’t waste your life,” by John Piper over three years ago I have not really sat down to read it until yesterday. Oh, I had read a little here and there and even highlighted a few lines, but for some reason (quite unbeknownst to me) the content did not “grab me” enough to really read it. Until yesterday. What I read from that book spoke to my heart in such a way that I have decided to write about it here. I highly recommend this book to anyone that desires a richer, fuller life in Jesus Christ from the perspective of the early church. This book is as a good place to start for new believers as well. It’s content will readily correct a lot of what is being taught in our churches that is unfortunately, how shall we say… less that accurate. How pastors can stand up and preach a “muddy stream” instead of the full gospel of Jesus Christ is beyond my comprehension. The gospel of Jesus Christ includes suffering. Yet for some reason in our modern day, many churches have completely disregarded the idea and doctrine of (as some have called it) “precious” suffering. This is one of the greatest points (in my own perspective) that John Piper covers in this book. It is a very easy book to read and designed for all ages (over the age of about ten) although the cover looks like was designed typically for the younger generation. Perhaps that is what threw me from finishing this book in the first place. Piper’s short stories, simple, but well rounded exegesis and prayerful admonishments uncover some very powerful truths that aught to be discussed in our schools, seminaries, churches; as well as in our private conversations with other believers. He seems to be a man much given to the cause of Christ, world missions, and of course Bible study and prayer. A great little book in my opinion.
Here are some notes taken from the book mentioned above. I hope you that you will take the time to read them in such a fashion so as to let the words sink down deep into your mind and spirit. Thank you and God bless you as always.
John
